Yet most people are left guessing because wearable devices provide raw numbers without context, while many mental health tools rely heavily on journaling without interpreting what the body is experiencing. Families and caregivers frequently recognise distress only after it has already escalated. This gap between body signals and meaningful understanding highlights an important need for practical daily support. It is this challenge that NeuraEase set out to address, and for its founders, the motivation came from experiences that were deeply personal.
How Personal Experiences Became the Foundation of NeuraEase
NeuraEase was shaped by the combined experiences of its three founders. Founder Vineela Upadhyayula spent years without understanding why everyday situations often felt overwhelming until she later realised she was autistic. Her journey revealed how difficult it can be to interpret internal body signals before reaching a breaking point. Co-founder and CEO Hari Krishna Upadhyayula had witnessed similar struggles within his own family while growing up alongside a close relative with severe autism. Co-founder Phani Madhav Upadhyayula shared those experiences and later combined his background in digital health, operations, and product development with the family's understanding of neurodivergence. Together, they recognised that technology could become a practical support system rather than simply another wellness application, leading them toward a more thoughtful approach to neurotech.
Turning Wearable Data Into Meaningful Everyday Insights
Instead of attempting to diagnose or replace clinical care, NeuraEase focuses on helping users better understand their own daily patterns. The platform combines wearable information such as heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep, activity, user check-ins, and contextual information to generate personalised insights based on each individual's baseline rather than generic averages. The founders intentionally designed the product to improve self-awareness, communication, and daily regulation instead of trying to "fix" neurodivergence. Their early work also led to the development of Tuno, an AI companion that interprets user states without making medical claims. This careful balance between innovation and responsibility shaped every product decision as the team prepared for real-world validation.
The first months were spent simplifying an extremely complex problem into a safe and practical product. The team had to decide which features belonged in the initial version while avoiding exaggerated claims around prediction, prevention, or treatment. Every recommendation needed to remain supportive without crossing into diagnosis or medical advice. They also focused heavily on language, believing that clear and respectful communication is just as important as the underlying technology. Confidence grew as conversations with neurodivergent individuals and families confirmed that the need was real. Early funding support, including an Emergent Ventures grant, approximately USD 100,000 in early support, a growing waitlist of more than 50 users, and preparations for pilot testing demonstrated that the idea was beginning to resonate beyond the founding team.
NeuraEase's Vision for Neurodivergent Support
The founders see NeuraEase as more than a health-tech product. Their long-term vision is to build a trusted daily support system that helps neurodivergent individuals understand their own patterns, communicate more effectively with caregivers, and share meaningful long-term insights with therapists, clinicians, educators, and families when they choose to do so. They also hope to contribute research-grade understanding while maintaining strong privacy and user consent. At its core, NeuraEase reflects a belief that technology should increase dignity, agency, and quality of life rather than encourage conformity. Looking back on their journey, the founders encourage others to build with honesty, avoid overclaiming, and stay committed to solving real human problems with patience and responsibility.
